Get to know the joy of 'Smoother Moving' in 3 classes of your choice, between now and July 2 for only 35 Euro:
  • Monday: Haags Yoga Centrum (Bezuidenhout), 16.45-18.00 hr.
  • Wednesday: Yin Yang Balance (Voorburg-Noord),18.30-19.45 or 20.00-21.15 hr. 
​Costs: only 35 euro for three classes 

Why Smoother Moving?

Connect to yourself and bring body and mind in balance. Learn how to notice stress at an early stage and to release tension. Learn to move with more ease and less pain. A fun way to meet others!  

Smoother Moving is a somatic movement class. It's a Western form of Mindful Moving, with its origines in the dance and theater world. The purpose of somatic movement is to enhance Body-Mind integration. By training movement awareness, this class improves awareness of the body and its (stress) signals, enhances human functioning and helps to make movement easier and more fun. You will learn to listen more closely to your body’s needs and become smoother as a mover!
Pauline is a great teacher! She is friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging and each class with her is different and fun. I'm so glad I discovered somatics with Pauline!

Who can do Somatic Movement?

This weekly class is suitable for anyone, including those with injuries. Personal experience and making discoveries at your own pace are core. Every single body is different and has different movement preferences. This is respected in somatic classes. Everyone works in a safe way, within their own boundaries and possibilities. We work with what we have, in a small group, with personal attention. Prior experience with somatic movement is not necessary. You move all the time. 

What Smoother Moving is not

This is not a Yoga or Pilates class. Pauline is a Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME). She has a dance background and studied Movement, Dance and Play. She is notoriously bad at remembering steps or sequences. So her classes are about exploring your own movement preferences more freely. Each series of classes is well structured around a movement theme, with lots of room for creativity and fun.

The classes at Haags Yogacentrum are based upon the Laban Movement System and Bartenieff Fundamentals (LBMS). Two rich and creative movement systems, all about developing a healthy, rich and easy movement pattern, in harmony with your environment.  

What is LBMS or BF?

LBMS stands for the Laban Bartenieff Movement System and BF for Bartenieff Fundamentals. LBMS is a rich and creative movement system, used by actors, choreographers and in Dance Movement Therapy (as well as in: anthropology, computer animation and management consultancy). It allows for observation and analysis of movement and intervention in human movement patterns (repatterning). The Space Harmony part of LBMS focuses on developing more balance with the world around us and more functionality and expression in movement. In short, LBMS is all about developing a healthy, rich and easy movement potential, in harmony with your environment. 

Bartenieff Fundamentals are a series of very basic but fundamental exercises, reconnecting the mover to their ‘inner connections’. Irmgard Bartenieff worked from these inner body connections (such as: Head-to-Tail, Left-Right, Core-Limbs and Diagonal). We all move through these ‘fundamental’ connections and movements as we develop our personal motor skills. Growing older we often develop fixed movement patterns and sometimes get stuck in them. Practicing the various basic movements, helps us to move through life with greater ease and relaxation. Our movement pattern becomes richer, more expressive and supple. We will ‘rediscover’ ease of movement, so to speak.
