Meditative Walks

Moving the Mind organizes  Mindful Walks, Wondering Walks and Tasteries. These walks will (hopefully) lead to a calmer mind and more relaxed body. My approach differs depending of the kind of walk. Some forms are more meditative than others. A 'Tastery' will give you a taste of some excersise from my classes and workshops in Mindful Moving.

Are you in need of a more individual aproach? Ask me about Mindful Walking Coaching.

Reports and photo-impressions of Meditative Walks:

Silent Walk: City, Dunes, Beach

On January 6 2019, in the middle of winter, I walked with 3 wonderful participants from the city, through the dunes to the beach. The weather was grey, with little wind. Standing in a circle we did a Mindfulness excersise. After the excersise the walking speed decreased quite naturally and we enjoyed the silence and slowing down more and more. We saw a miniature bike, sheep and suddenly a man floating over the dunes on a parachute, who landed with a lot rustling sounds on the other side of the dune. We walked back over the beach. Without us hardly noticing, two hours had passed. We drank coffee together and talked a bit about this special walk.

Silent Walk through Meijendel, September first 2018

Nine participants and I enjoyed the gorgious weather and the beauty of Meijendel. In silence, we walked a combination of the 'Oak Route' (blue) and the Beach Route (yellow). We loved the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves, the view over the water pond, the forms, plants, animals and enjoyed the walking itself. On the way we did several kinds of Mindfulness excersises, to help us to stay in the here and now with full attention. It was wonderful! Thank you, enthousiastic participants.

Marvel around the Heavenly Vault (Hemels Gewelf ), June 3 2018

On a sunny Sunday, I walked in, around and near the Heavenly Vault again, this time accompanied by Katja and Reinier. In the middle of this fascinating work of art, we did a brief meditation excersise and on the beach one more. Again, I savoured the play between nature, this work of Environmental Art and my senses. What a wonderful, relaxing walk!  Enjoy the photo impression and thanks Katja en Reinier!

Silent Walk: From Piano to Art, Februari 25, 2018

Wonderful walk through beautiful Clingendael and het Haagse Bos. Thankful for 5 fantastic participants, who enjoyed the walk so much and fell more and more quiet... We saw a Kingfisher! (too quick for the camera). More pictures on my Facebookpage.

Wondering Walk september 24, 2017: Around the Heavenly Vault

The first Wondering Walk started at Het Hemels Gewelf (The Heavenly Vault), a special work of art by James Turrell in the dunes of Kijkduin. This symmetrical bowl does magical things with the sky, your senses and the world around. We were impressed by this wonderous place. We took our time to experience and used our in- and outbreath to feel even better wat the work of art did with us.

Then followed a very diverse walk through the dunes, the forest, blooming trees and bushes in the direction of the beach. We saw a weirdly wonderous scooter and enjoyed the wide beach, where the sand motor is quietly doing its work and people and birds enjoy. We ended again at Het Hemels Gewelf. I was surprised about how relaxed I was compared to the start of the walk.

This Wondering Walk is worth repeating!

Silent Walk on Februari 5, 2017: Looking at the Waves

Foto

What a beautiful and mysterious Silent Walk this was! Thee winter mist was a bit cold at first. The sea was beautiful and very soothing for our senses while walking kept us warm. Half way through, the sun appeared and the waves glistened for us. A little present. At the beginning, half way and at the end, we did a short mindfulness
excersise. This helped to keep our focus on 'looking'. Amazing how much we saw...

It was very relaxing. Thank you Trudy, Ineke, Isabella and Patricia, for sharing this experience with me.

Silent Walk on June 5, 2016: 'Silence'

We started our walk with a short mindfulness excersise. Conciously 'arriving'  at the beach by feeling the sand, smelling the sea, seeing the breakers and listening to the surrounding sounds. We spend some brief moments contemplating our intention: 'to walk peacefully' .

The theme of this nice walk at the beach in Scheveningen was: 'Silence'. We thoroughly enjoyed the sea mist and wide views. We especially listened to the sounds:
the wind, waves, birds in the dunes, the crispy sound of breaking shells under our feet, flapping lines on sailboats, geese, barking dogs, chattering people.  The way back sounded very different from the way out there.
Thank you, Janet and Ruud.

'It was wonderful again' Janet.

Silent Walk on March 25, 2016

On the 25th of March the theme was 'Solid Ground' and we concentreted on the ground beneath our feet. Walking to simply walk. Enjoying the walking. On the sidewalk, asphalt, grass and forest soil, on paths made of shells, leaves and moss. We walked through Bezuidenhout and het Haagse Bos. Towards the squirrel bridge and along the big pond and royal palace. And on the way back we walked on a swampy clay dike, that tried to make our shoes stuck.

Reaction from participants Robert en Marian:
'How serene do we look after this wonderful Silent Walk. Thank you Pauline.'
